About Us

Andrew Bower, Executive Chef

I GREW UP IN Cleveland Hts.

WHERE I DAYDREAMED OF Arabica Coffee and Indians World Series.

Cleveland Hts WAS GREAT.  Grog Shop and Tommys Milk Shakes.

I JUST HOPE PEOPLE THERE DON’T REMEMBER WHEN I ran into a tree on my bike.

SINCE THEN, I’VE DISCOVERED the greatness of living on the North Coast.

FOR ME, beer is a good time waiting to happen.

I’M REALLY EXCITED TO BE A PART OF MARKET GARDEN BREWERY/SPEAKEASY/         CENTO/BIER MARKT/NANO BREW BECAUSE I work in the heart of the city.

WE ALL DO A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING HERE, BUT TO SUM UP MY ROLE, I’D SAY I’M the Ambassador of Comfort Food.

WHEN I’M NOT WORKING, I enjoy music and hiking with my dog.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT CLEVELAND IS the people that you see here are both interesting and great.

IN TWENTY-FIVE YEARS, the Tribe will have won 6 back to back World Series titles.

AND THAT WHEN PEOPLE TALK ABOUT MGB, THEY’LL TALK ABOUT how great of a time they had, at least the parts they remember.

Andy Tveekrem, Brewmaster

I GREW UP IN Akron.

WHERE I DAYDREAMED OF blimps.  There was always one floating around somewhere overhead.

College WAS GREAT.  It opened my mind to new ideas and critical thinking, and formed me into the person I am today.  It also was where I really started thinking about beer.

I JUST HOPE PEOPLE THERE DON’T REMEMBER WHEN some of my intensive beer studies conflicted with good taste and judgement… that may have happened once or twice, but I really can’t recall.

SINCE THEN, I’VE DISCOVERED Cleveland, our fair city, where people truly appreciate the art of brewing.  And I truly can appreciate the diversity and character of its many great neighborhoods.

FOR ME, leaving this city for a decade was the best education in why I should come back here for good.  There’s just no comparison to the great amenities and lifestyle this city offers.

I’M REALLY EXCITED TO BE A PART OF MARKET GARDEN BREWERY/SPEAKEASY/         CENTO/BIER MARKT/NANO BREW BECAUSE I get to brew the kind of beer that I really enjoy and I get to work with an amazingly talented group of people.  It’s the best environment I’ve ever seen.

WE ALL DO A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING AT MGB, BUT TO SUM UP MY ROLE, I’D SAY I’M a teacher and beer ambassador.

WHEN I’M NOT WORKING, I like spending time with Vickie, my wife and the love of my life.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT CLEVELAND IS the history of the city and the many buildings and areas that remind you of it every day.  The way we integrate that into our daily lives is always interesting, like the juxtaposition of heavy industry and natural beauty along the canal towpath trail.

IN TWENTY-FIVE YEARS, I really, really don’t want to be working at Wal Mart to support myself in my dotage.

AND THAT WHEN PEOPLE TALK ABOUT MGB, THEY’LL TALK ABOUT that creepy old guy at the end of the bar… that’ll be me. Cheers!

BILLY CROMPTON, KITCHEN MANAGER AT NANO BREW

I GREW UP IN Cleveland, WHERE I DAYDREAMED OF touring with a rock band.

Cleveland WAS GREAT. Lots of music, the Fryer, and family.

I JUST HOPE PEOPLE THERE DON’T REMEMBER WHEN  I moved away to find what had been here all along.

SINCE THEN, I’VE DISCOVERED my “Cleveland 2.0″: more of what I loved in the first place, and more…

FOR ME, Cleveland is Home. Has been, always will be… And it’s great to be back.

I’M REALLY EXCITED TO BE A PART OF MARKET GARDEN BREWERY/SPEAKEASY/         CENTO/BIER MARKT/NANO BECAUSE I get to do a ton of different things, but I mostly get to pursue my passion of cooking for people.

WE ALL DO A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING AT NANO, BUT TO SUM UP MY ROLE, I’D SAY I’M the weird guy in the basement (that’s where the kitchen is…).

WHEN I’M NOT WORKING, I’m working. Sometimes I play music.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT CLEVELAND IS it’s coming back, and finding its own new identity in the 21st century.

IN TWENTY-FIVE YEARS, I’ll still be “Uncle Billy”.

AND THAT WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT NANO, THEY’LL TALK ABOUT the ‘Little Bar That Could…And Did!’.

Fat Bob, Warehouse Guardian

Hi there.  Andy calls me ‘Fat Bob’, but I prefer the more formal ‘Plump Robert’.

How do I like warehouse living?  Well, let me tell ya, that cage at the APL was pretty dinky compared to this place.  Food’s better too!

James Boland, Sous Chef at Market Garden Brewery

I GREW UP IN Cleveland, WHERE I DAYDREAMED OF being a pirate on Lake Erie.

Cleveland WAS GREAT as a place to grow up in the restaurant scene and being able to watch it grow into a culinary destination.

I JUST HOPE PEOPLE THERE DON’T REMEMBER WHEN  I  had a mullet.

SINCE THEN, I’VE DISCOVERED that hair cuts are pretty rad.

FOR ME, Cleveland is my second favorite place in the U.S.

I’M REALLY EXCITED TO BE A PART OF MARKET GARDEN BREWERY/SPEAKEASY/         CENTO/BIER MARKT/NANO BECAUSE I have tons of different opportunities every hour of every day to learn more about food and beer. My two favorite things in life!

WE ALL DO A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING AT MGB, BUT TO SUM UP MY ROLE, I’D SAY I’M the people person in the kitchen.

WHEN I’M NOT WORKING, I’m probably still at work, or spending time with my loved ones.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT CLEVELAND IS the changing of seasons. Fall is by far my favorite.

IN TWENTY-FIVE YEARS, I hope to own a farm house where I can grow all of my own food and raise my own livestock.

AND THAT WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT MGB, THEY’LL TALK ABOUT the incredible food and unique beer.

Jeff Draeger, General Manager

I GREW UP IN Dayton.

WHERE I DAYDREAMED OF a Cleveland Browns Super Bowl.

Dayton  WAS GREAT.  Dive bars and lots of Frickers Chicken Chunks.

I JUST HOPE PEOPLE THERE DON’T REMEMBER WHEN I turned 21 years old.

SINCE THEN, I’VE DISCOVERED Cleveland, and the great people this city encompasses.

FOR ME,  great beer is a bridge to great friendships.

I’M REALLY EXCITED TO BE A PART OF MARKET GARDEN BREWERY/SPEAKEASY/         CENTO/BIER MARKT/NANO BREW BECAUSE I constantly get to learn more about the in’s and out’s of beer.

WE ALL DO A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING AT MGB, BUT TO SUM UP MY ROLE, I’D SAY I’M the father figure to our employees and the godfather to our beverage program.

WHEN I’M NOT WORKING, I like to attend sporting events, and visit neighboring watering holes.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT CLEVELAND IS the camaraderie that is shared by everyone and while CLE continues its rebirth.

IN TWENTY-FIVE YEARS, I hope to be a billionaire, and own a lobster fishing boat in Maine.

AND THAT WHEN PEOPLE TALK ABOUT MGB, THEY’LL TALK ABOUT how we have made the city proud, and how we dominate the craft beer scene!

Loung Ung, Partner/Food, Wine& Beer Taster

Loung Ung’s Website

Loung Ung’s Facebook

I GREW UP IN Cambodia & America.

WHERE I DAYDREAMED OF hot, sunny, eighty degree days.
College was GREAT because I met hubby Mark Priemer (CO-Founder MGB/BC/BM/Nano) there and he brought me to Cleveland.

I JUST HOPE PEOPLE THERE DON’T REMEMBER WHEN I tried to do a séance to speak to the dead when I had wee bit too much to drink one night.

SINCE THEN, I’VE DISCOVERED that I am a one drink, two at most, kinda girl, and that it’s best to eat while I am enjoying my beers.

FOR ME, life has to be lived to the fullest because you only get one shot at it.

I’M REALLY EXCITED TO BE A PART OF MARKET GARDEN BREWERY/ SPEAKEASY/ BAR CENTO/ BIER MARKT/ NANO BREW, because I love the food/beer/wine/cocktail experience, and the entire team is amazing!

WE ALL DO A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING, BUT TO SUM UP MY ROLE, I’D SAY I’M a food/beer/wine taster….  It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it.

WHEN I’M NOT WORKING, I ride my tandem bike around Cleveland with Mark and annoyingly ring my eyeball bell at people as I pass.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT CLEVELAND IS  It has world class restaurants, nightlife, and brewpubs, world class museums, musical venues, festivals, theatre—all for a fraction of the price of what it would cost in other cities.  Did I also mention we have a wealth of awesome writers living here in town?

IN TWENTY-FIVE YEARS, I will still be loving Food, Beer and Wine and hopefully still a part of a team providing a unique experience to others.

AND THAT WHEN PEOPLE TALK ABOUT BAR CENTO, MARKET GARDEN BREWERY, NANO….THEY’LL TALK ABOUT the aggressive farm to table kitchens and commitment to local/Ohio sourcing of ingredients that continues to grow every year….

Mike Foran, Co-Founder

I GREW UP IN Bay Village.

WHERE I DAYDREAMED OF retiring from the Browns to become the President of the United States.

 Bay Village WAS GREAT.

I JUST HOPE PEOPLE THERE DON’T REMEMBER WHEN I almost burned down the Service Department building by accident.

SINCE THEN, I’VE DISCOVERED I love beer more than politics.

I’M REALLY EXCITED TO BE A PART OF MARKET GARDEN BREWERY/SPEAKEASY/         CENTO/BIER MARKT/NANO BREW BECAUSE it makes me feel like I have a multiple personality disorder.

WE ALL DO A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING AT MGB, BUT TO SUM UP MY ROLE, I’D SAY I’M the guy behind the guy.

WHEN I’M NOT WORKING, I love having a few laughs with friends over a beer.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT CLEVELAND IS that you may leave her, but she’ll always take you back with open arms.

IN TWENTY-FIVE YEARS, our children will read about a time where Cleveland was not internationally considered the #1 city in America.

AND THAT WHEN PEOPLE TALK ABOUT MGB, THEY’LL TALK ABOUT how we helped to change that.

NATHAN CARR, EVENTS COORDINATOR

I GREW UP IN Mansfield, OH

WHERE I DAYDREAMED OF winning a Tony Award.

Spending a ton of time in theatres growing up WAS GREAT. I made lifelong friends, learned respect for others and what it means to be prepared for any kind of unplanned situation. Creativity goes a long way.

I JUST HOPE PEOPLE THERE DON’T REMEMBER WHEN I donned a full-body spandex cat suit to sing and dance in that musical about felines.

SINCE THEN, I’VE DISCOVERED a love of all things edible and drinkable and an ability to flip my “performance background” into a talent for party planning… more similarities than you’d think!

FOR ME, it’s all about finding the joy in everything I do, and sharing it with others.

I’M REALLY ECITED TO BE A PART OF MARKET GARDEN BREWERY/ SPEAKEASY/ CENTO/ BIER MARTK/ NANO BECAUSE I can say “I was part of that” when people talk about the renaissance of Cleveland.

WE ALL DO A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING AT MGB, BUT TO SUM UP MY ROLE, I’D SAY I’M the one that says “Yes!” when you call us with any reason to have large groups of people join us for a couple beers and great food. Bar crawls to Rehearsal dinners… I am your guy!

WHEN I’M NOT WORKING, I am playing around in my kitchen, listening to music, or exploring with my friends.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT CLEVELAND IS that it’s imperfectly perfect. We are past the age where shopping plazas and chain restaurants were a sign of growth and prosperity. Now, it’s about what makes us stand out from the rest. I love that I can jump around this city and find something unique at every turn.

IN TWENTY-FIVE YEARS, I will still be showing up to my friends’ doorsteps with ice cream and wine… My family may have grown and exciting opportunities may re-route my course, but I plan to always do what makes me happy.

AND THAT WHEN PEOPLE TALK ABOUT MGB, THEY’LL TALK ABOUT how it contributed to the landscape of Cleveland and helped the city transform during a period of imagination and restoration. Also, the beer is super tasty.

Sam McNulty, Founder

I GREW UP IN Cleveland Heights.

WHERE I DAYDREAMED OF cycling, traveling and drinking good beer.

College WAS GREAT. I opened up my first restaurant on the Cleveland State campus in my Junior year.  We had 6 beers on draft, and 5 were local craft beers: Great Lakes, Burning River, Western Reserve, and more.

I JUST HOPE PEOPLE THERE DON’T REMEMBER power napping on a prep table in the back hallway in between classes and long hours at the restaurant.

SINCE THEN, I’VE DISCOVERED how awesome Cleveland is.  It’s a post-industrial frontier town with opportunity galore.  The food, beer scene, concerts, and people are awesome.  Mostly, it’s the people that better it though.

I’M REALLY EXCITED TO BE A PART OF MARKET GARDEN BREWERY/SPEAKEASY/         CENTO/BIER MARKT/NANO BREW BECAUSE of all the amazing people that make up this big family.

WE ALL DO A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING AT MGB, BUT TO SUM UP MY ROLE, I’D SAY I’M still trying to figure out what my job description is.  It seems to change every hour!

WHEN I’M NOT WORKING, I like spending time with family and friends.  Usually, cycling around the neighborhoods and enjoying good times together over beer and good food.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT CLEVELAND IS the people.  There’s so much to love about this city: the lake, the cultural institutions, the accessibility, easy to get around, affordable.  But again, mostly it’s the friends and fun people.

IN TWENTY-FIVE YEARS, I’ll still be living, working and playing here in Ohio City.  Hopefully, my passport with have a few more stamps on it too…

AND THAT WHEN PEOPLE TALK ABOUT MGB, THEY’LL TALK ABOUT  all the festive times they had here surrounded by family and friends.

Trouble, Warehouse Guardian

Hi, my name is Trouble.

I enjoy travel and singing.  I like exploring the alley out back whenever the door is open…there’s a squirrel out there who’s just asking for trouble. Hey, that’s me!

I’d like to be a tour guide one of these days.
